As a member of the Aussie Online Entrepreneurs, I have often seen mention made of how to determine if a particular product will sell well on Amazon.
The answer is usually to research the product using tools such as Merchant Words, Jungle Scout or Unicorn Smasher. While these tools give an educated guess, they are not connected to the Amazon database.
A further problem comes from using Amazon US data to determine if a product is going to sell here in Australia.
So…what to do ???? TERAPEAK…yes yes I know Terapeak is for eBay, but hear me out. When the Amazon tools that are readily accepted as THE way to research, why not get actual data from eBay?
Given that all the data indicates that many more people buy from Amazon than eBay, it would seem that if research shows that a product is successful on eBay, it would not be too much of a stretch to conclude it would be successful on Amazon.
Another benefit is the ability to look at the same product in different marketplaces. Very often a standout product shows huge potential in one market, but sells very few in another. Take for example this Gaming Chair setup. Using the keywords “simulator seat” let’s do some research.
In the US the top selling chair has sold 63 units in the past 12 months for a sales total of nearly $25,000. Not a bad product.
In Australia, there is nowhere near the demand for these chairs is low. The top selling product sold just 5 units is the past 12 months. In fact the top 5 listings together have only sold 18 units.
With that information in mind, the Gaming Chair does not seem to be as attractive for an Aussie market.
Let’s look at another product.
A look at the US market shows the top seller sold over 2000 units for a sales total of just over $10,000 for the past 12 months. The sell price is quite low at $4.70 this does not appear to be a particularly lucrative product.
In Australia, the top seller has great sales with a much higher sell price and has smashed the year with over $93,000 in sales.!!
In my opinion being able to research REAL figures from eBay’s database is invaluable when deciding what product to sell.
TeraPeak offers a 7 day free trial, and I would strongly advise having a good look at the system. I have often seen criticism that TeraPeak is expensive, I have not found that to be the case. Think of it as an investment in your online business, if you find one new product a year it will far outweigh the subscription cost.
